Consignment shops are often misunderstood as Thrift shops, but there exists a major and distinguishing difference between the two regarding the profit and quality of the items. Some of the following distinguishing factors are mentioned below.

• The profit earned from selling the items by the thrift shops either goes to the shop or it is donated to charity. The people who donate the items do not get anything in return. In case of consignment shops, the profit is divided into the shop and the person who bring the items to the shops.


• In consignment shops, one would find handpicked items to buy and it also offers you an opportunity to bring in your used things. The items brought by you are generally sorted out according to the season and their conditions. These shops give you the share of your profit and sometimes tax benefits on your used unsold items. Thrift shops are also a great place to find the items needed but these shops are flooded and disorderly maintained as they deal with donated products. Before keeping the products for sell, they are not as examined as in case of consignment shops.

• The prices and the quality of the items in consignment shops are quite high as compare to thrift shops. This may be due to the fact that the consignment shops help people to sell their quality product for a share of the sale price. The costs of the items of Thrift shops are very low as these shops completely depend on donation hence whatever price they get is the profit of the shop.
